  WHAT IF WE DIDN'T POISON CHILDREN'S MINDS WITH FANTASY?

  every baby born seems to have a giant helping of fairy stories, talking animals, outrageous exaggerations parading as "fact" and an endless stream of cartoons, science fiction and make-believe.

  the laws of nature and physics are violated every few seconds in film and tv!

  is it surprising that children are not only ignorant of how things really work-but, they don't have patience and an appetite for fact when they get to the schoolroom.

  I always find people who have a good imagination to be more open-minded, well-rounded people. If you have a good imagination of the extraordinary, you will have more empathy towards others as you are more easily able to put yourself in their shoes.

  To teach children that all fantasies are lies and that they are superior to others who believe in magic will only teach them to be close-minded and prejudiced,

  There is so much magic in the world, and to not open your mind to this will only leave you feeling jaded.

  Morons who steal my laundry detergent.

  i thought the bottle was feeling a little light one day, but i thought maybe my boyfriend did a couple loads (yeah, right.

  ) then after i bought a full bottle, did one load, and came back to an almost empty bottle, i knew it was theft.

  since then, i have to lock it up.

  Does anyone else leave their detergent there?

  Yes! But I buy the expensive stuff (Tide and Snuggle) while the others have huge bulk buckets of cheaper stuff next to their washers.

  I guess if you're gonna steal, you go for the best!

  i thought the bottle was feeling a little light one day, but i thought maybe my boyfriend did a couple loads (yeah, right.

  ) then after i bought a full bottle, did one load, and came back to an almost empty bottle, i knew it was theft.

  since then, i have to lock it up.

  This just seems common sense to me. Don't leave it in the laundry room.

  I guess the part that makes me most mad is that I used to live in an apartment complex where we all trusted one another to not steal, that I could leave my stuff out and not worry about it for the many years that I lived here, and now these people who moved in are very disrespectful of our property. I think it is between two different families that just moved in, because they have been disrespectful/not following rules of the apartments, and I never had a problem until they moved in.

  I come from a small town where we didn't lock our doors on our houses and cars. When I moved to a bigger city, it was a very unnatural thing to learn. It's sad that you can't just trust people.

  I think the child is more perceptive than to be unable to discern fantasy from reality.

  Until you think it's fine to quit your job because it's more important to get dressed up and play D&D in your best friend's basement, I don't think there's anything to worry about.

  Imagination is the most powerful thing in the world. Without it we wouldn't have art, we wouldn't have gone to space, we wouldn't have invented the clapper!

  I never had to lock up my detergent before! I thought the bottle was feeling a little light one day, but I thought maybe my boyfriend did a couple loads (yeah, right.) Then after I bought a full bottle, did one load, and came back to an almost empty bottle, I knew it was theft. Since then, I have to lock it up.

  I foolishly left my newly bought dryer sheets (nice smelling purple box Snuggle). I came back a couple hours later and the ENTIRE BOX IS GONE!!! For the love of Jehovah, use one or two sheets if you really have to, BUT THE WHOLE BOX!!???? They didn't even leave the box!

  My boyfriend says we should leave a "Booby trapped" bottle of detergent next to our washer and put something like dye or bleach in it to find the culprit.

  Any ideas from all you creative people? Or should I just be more careful to keep my stuff locked up and turn the other cheek?

  Nancy, Hello Kitty, the first time I ever saw her was at the Woodfield Mall in 1978. I bought a Hello Kitty clipboard.

  I love the old-school, very plain, primary colored Hello Kitty the best from 1976. These days, they make her a little too pastel-ish.

  MOVIE MUSIC: No, not songs; knowing the Score!

  ever since my mother took me to that sci-fi movie when i was 4, i've been aware of what movie music does to persuade us that what is onscreen is something we can identify with emotionally.

  filmmusic has had many incarnations from the guy with the piano in front of the silent film making it up as it happens on screen to the symphonic scores of the golden age of film to the proliferation of pop tunes that are "dialed in" and "dialed out" by contemporary directors.

  the truly long-lasting classic films have stand-alone music that lives after them.

  The score in Fahrenheit 9/11 was very conspiratorial and sensational, which I found to be distracting.

  The background music from Anne of Green Gables and The Parent Trap makes me cry everytime because it reminds me of the wholesome movies I used to have to watch as a JW kid.
